about

“This next song is a dancin’ tune!” Garrett exclaims while holding high his index finger, stage lights shimmering off his sunglasses, Humid hollers shouting back from the packed dance floor. It wasn’t supposed to happen this way with The Three Timers – the monthly White Horse gigs, the SXSW shows, hands on hips, arms intertwined...becoming a "band’s band" from San Antonio for the Austin honky-tonk set. Hell, even a month tour over in the Netherlands. It’s been about a year and half into these Three Timers monthly gigs up "¡Ay-35!" and the dancing tunes never get old.

The Three Timers were to be a little San Antonio party band playing the good times rock and roll at dusty dives after the Spurs game turned off. They were looking no further than to hole up at a little cantina across the street from Ft. Sam, Betty’s Battalion, or hit up The Mix on a weeknight, maybe cover a little Sir Doug or Buck Owens. It didn’t take long for that idea to shift, and within the first few months of gigs it resonated with The Three Timers that the band was actually good enough to be exported elsewhere.

There’s something about The Sounds of San Antone - a sloppy set of South Texas roggenroll spillin’ out your ears like an overloaded plate of enchiladas. What The Three Timers exude is not a “return to” or an homage of what once was, but a continuation of a sound that truly reflects San Antonio’s musical ‘tude. It’s sped up, laid back, and groovin’ at the same time. There’s conjunto inspired polka upticks laid over rock and roll licks that somehow come out with a honky tonk twang. It’s soulful, real, and down. What’s amazing about a Three Timers set is when your ears are hearing what’s not there. How is it that an accordion or Vox organ earworms it’s way into a song? What’s making me hear “Ay Te Dejo…” as if it’s coming out of a blown speaker? What’s happening with my feet? I dunno, it’s merely the Sounds of San Antone
